Severe burn injury is everyone’s worst nightmare.
Unfortunately, for patients at the University of Utah’s
Intermountain Burn Unit, this is a reality.
The center admits an average of 400 patients annually, and half of
those are children. The Intermountain Burn Center receives patients with
severe thermal and chemical injuries from a five state referral area.
The staff at the burn center provide a full range of services
including intensive care, burn surgery, burn therapy, and outpatient
treatment. Still, burn
survivors need more than just medical care they also require support in
dealing with their permanent disfigurement and scaring, especially
adolescents. Because of our clients need for social and emotional
healing, the staff at the Intermountain Burn Center wanted to help
previously burn adolescents beyond their daily medical care. Burn Camp was organized-- a six day river rafting and camping trip.
It has been an overwhelming success.
Burn survivors became friends with other who have been through
similar experiences while at the same time developing self-esteem, coping
skills, and a feeling of achievement. Because of its past success, we are in the process of
raising money again this year for more burn survivors to attend Burn
Camp 2006. At the Intermountain Burn Center, we are committed to
providing this opportunity for our patients. Of course, we need your help,
and ask you to make a difference in the life of a child who has been
through this traumatic ordeal. Any donation would be greatly appreciated with this difficult
task of raising funds. If you
are interested in sponsoring a child the cost is $500 per camper. The
rewards will be satisfying to you as well as to the burn survivors.

We appreciate your support, and thank you for your consideration.
